Forensic Psychiatry

Dr. Oklan has been involved in diverse forensic psychiatric activities, including, but not limited to: determination of damages and cost of “Life Care Plans” after a wide variety of medical and psychological injuries; sexual harassment; wrongful termination; true and false allegations of sexual abuse; commitment, conservatorship and competency evaluations; evaluations of children for adoption and placement in Juvenile Dependency matters, including assessment of attachment issues; utilizing videotaped observations of of psychiatry evaluations; diminished capacity issues regarding felony cases before the Superior Court; psychiatric and medical malpractice; head trauma cases; sequelae of motor vehicle accidents; pharmacy prescription errors; e coli induced glomerulonephritis; institutional neglect; wrongful death and deprivation of parental services; assessment of the psychological status, damages, treatment recommendations and care costs (Life Care Plans) in traumatized children and adults, both in his private practice and in conjunction with Gilbert Kliman, MD at Preventive Psychiatry Associates and the Children’s Psychological Health Center. Dr. Oklan has also been a Medical Examiner for the Superior Court of Marin County, a Psychiatric Expert for the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance, as well as a Qualified Medical Examiner for the California Department of Industrial Relations in workers’ compensation cases. He has also served as an impartial expert/Special Master for the courts of Marin, Sonoma, and San Francisco counties in over 50 high conflict divorced and custody cases and helped establish the Special Master program in Marin County. He has been involved post-litigation in facilitating the reunification of high-conflict divorced families through Family Bridges: A Workshop for Troubled and Alienated Parent-Child Relationships. Please see his CV for a description of his experience and areas of expertise.
